One quick thought, if you're thinking broadly about space, there could many interesting opportunities to create space for start-up bloggers, independent media in the area to come as a kind of co-work space to share ideas, lessons, and experiment with your students.

About Me
Paul Kandell, adviser to The Paly Voice (http://voice.paly.net) and Verde magazine, both at Palo Alto High School, has been teaching English and journalism since 1996. Before arriving in Palo Alto, he earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from UC-Berkeley and a master's degree in journalism from the University of Missouri at Columbia, where he worked for the daily Columbia Missourian, covering police, courts and the Ku Klux Klan, among other things. Throughout the early 90s he worked as a stringer out of Newsweek's San Francisco bureau, covering news and features for 10 Western states as he earned his teaching credential at San Francisco State University. From 1996 to 2000, he taught and advised at Lowell High School in San Francisco. Throughout his teaching career, Kandell has been active in helping train other journalism advisers, speaking at local, state and national workshops and conventions. He helped produce Intensive Journalistic Writing Institutes at San Francisco State University in 2002 and 2003, and in July 2004 and in 2006, he co-taught week-long summer seminars on Youth Journalism Advising. In 2006, he was honored as a "distinguished adviser" by the Dow Jones Newspaper Fund.

Maybe building amazing newsroom

I teach Web Journalism and Magazine Journalism at Palo Alto High School, which has one of the largest (and most decorated) scholastic journalism programs in the country. We have about 200 advanced students operating in five different staffs (newspaper, broadcast, newsmag, sportsmag and Web) and another 100 or so a year in beginning journalism, 120 in photography and another 120 in video production.
