We've had pretty good results with the Nokia N95 for streaming video. Great lens, pretty good sound. You can check out a few samples from our coverage of a shooting on a high school campus here in Fresno. But some reporters still are concerned abut choosing the "right" tool for the job. Video or audio, pen or paper, text message or stone tablet. What is your approach? How do you foster an environment of experimentation?

Newspaper guy for almost 31 ... gulp ... years. I started back when Tri-X and Accufine were state of the art for photographers and Royal typewriters were used to literally bang out copy. I lived through the painful introduction of color on newsprint (Put a pink screen behind that story! Why? Because we can!). We sent stories using Telerams and Trash 80s. Then someone dropped a MacPlus on my desk and we saw the end of newspapers (you mean just anyone can do this now?). Then came MCI mail, six-pound "mobile" phones, the Internet (you mean just anyone can do this now?). Oh, through that time I got married, raised a couple of kids, divorced, married, raised another kid, traveled, voted, partied, studied, learned lots and forgot lots more (you mean just anyone can do this now?) And here we are …

No walls, no buildings. Just buyers and sellers. The sellers are content providers: reporters, writers, photographers, artists, analysts and editors. The buyers represent the medium (newspaper, magazine, web site, blog, smartphone, podcast, broadcast, and whatever comes next. For now anyway, they all represent The News Organization that we hope the public will learn to trust again.
