Started at the Reading Times in 1984 as a reporter, last covering the courthouse before moving to the copy desk. Later was named assistant city editor, city editor and assistant managing editor.
There was no loud cheer or celebration -- just big smiles early this morning when the ink hit the paper for the three live sections of the redesigned Reading Eagle. One of those grinning was Design Editor Grant Mahon, above.
Two standing sections -- Money and Life -- and a special sec… Continue
We are three days out from our redesigned/reformatted paper hitting the streets.
A lot of people here are running on adrenaline and caffeine. I think we all got a good surge this morning when we were finally able to hold some test papers in our hands -- fresh off the new press.
Still a lot of work to be done to be ready for Sunday night, when we print the first real paper.

Hi Dave ... congratulations to you and everyone else there. I remember the feeling of relief and joy that you must have this week. If you have a moment, I'd love to see a copy of your first edition. Thanks and best wishes going forward.

That's great, an exciting time that I remember fondly. How have the parallels been going?
Thanks for the update, Dave. I remember the days of parellel newspapers. As I believe that I told your group, those were incredibly valuable to us (even though the two-a-days were challenging). Being able to use the templates, style sheets, etc. and get used to the new size was helpful to the designers/copy editors. And it was a great way to give instant feedback/coaching before Day One.
Sounds like you've got a good rollout planned. Best wishes!

Hi Dave ... I think I remember you as one of the visitors to Lafayette when you were researching plans for your Berliner. How's that transition going?
